1933-2025
Marcelo M. Ramirez beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather went to be with our Lord on August 8, 2025, at the age of 92. He was born in Hunter, TX, was raised in San Marcos, Texas and passed away in Laredo, TX. He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Gloria G. Ramirez, four children Monica L. Martinez (Anselmo †), Gerardo A. Ramirez (Irene), Veronica Ramirez (Raymond), and Carlos M. Ramirez (Samantha), nine grandchildren Jessica L. Robertson (Julian), Dezarai D. Ramirez-Ryan (Justin), Gerardo A. Ramirez, II, Jaime A. Ramirez (Nayanika), Joel A. Ramirez, Cristina D. Garcia, Carlos M. Ramirez, II, Larissa G. Ramirez ,and Emma R. Ramirez, and three great-grandchildren Lonnie L. Robertson, Sofia G. Ryan, and Isabella M. Ryan. Marcelo was a graduate of Texas State University in San Marcos, TX and longtime resident of Zapata, TX . He worked as an educator for 34 years for Zapata Independent School District, where he taught 4th grade and special education for 32 years at A.L. Benavides in San Ygnacio, TX and special education at Zapata Junior High in Zapata, TX for 2 years. After his retirement as an educator, he worked as a Juvenile Probation Officer under Judge Manuel Flores in Zapata County for 5 years. Additionally, he served his country as a member of the United States Army at Fort Bliss Texas during the Korean War. Marcelo is preceded in death by his parents Francisco and Juana Ramirez, eight siblings Franciso Ramirez, Rufina Vasquez, Anita Ramirez, Eustolia Barrera, Francisca Munoz, Ventura Ramirez, Basilio Ramirez, and twin sister Marcela Ramirez. Marcelo, affectionately referred to by his children as “Papi” and “Tio Cuate” by his family members, was quick to help others, warm and cheerful, and an avid sports fan. He loved fishing along with his morning coffee and sweets, beamed with pride about his children and grandchildren, and was always quick to start a conversation even with strangers. Above all, he always put his wife and children first. He will be missed and in our hearts forever.
Viewing and a rosary will be held at Fred Dickey Funeral Home, 1320 Trey Drive, Laredo, TX 78041 on Thursday, August 14, 2025 from 9:00AM to 11:00AM with a rosary at 10:30AM.
A viewing and rosary will also be held at Rose Garden Funeral Home, 2102 N. US Hwy 83, Zapata, TX 78076 on Thursday, August 14, 2025 from 6:00PM to 9:00PM with a rosary at 7:00PM

A Mass will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 1610 Hidalgo Blvd, Zapata, Texas 78076 on Friday, August 15, 2025 at 10:00AM
A procession will follow with interment at Zapata County Cemetery, 642 FM 496, Zapata, TX 78076
