Obituary

Laura Magnon Ramirez, age 85, entered eternal rest on Tuesday, January 31, 2023, peacefully surrounded by her immediate family.  She was born in Laredo, Texas, and preceded in death by her parents George C. Magnon, Sr., and Maria Luisa Casso Magnon.  Also preceding her in death are her nephews Alfonso Gerardo Magnon and George C. Magnon, III; Son-in-Law Raul Teran; and the father of her children, Fidel Carlos Ramirez, Sr.

Laura attended Martin High School, where she graduated in the top ten students of the Class of 1954.  Additionally, she was voted Most Likely to Succeed by her peers.

Laura was a loyal and dedicated employee of 35 years at Laredo National Bank. After her tenure at Laredo National Bank, Laura was employed by the Texas Department of Public Safety, where she worked in the License and Weight Division up until her retirement.  In addition to her full-time employment, Laura found her passion as a master cake baker, a skill she acquired from her maternal aunt, Esperanza “Lala” Olson.  A woman of many talents, Laura owned and operated her small business, Cakes by Laura, specializing in custom-made wedding cakes.  She also enjoyed spending her time doing fabric cross-stitch, crochet, and she was an avid card player.

Laura was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to many.  She had a high regard for integrity, independence, and a strong work-ethic, instilling these same values in each of her five children.

Laura is survived by her children: Fidel Carlos “Butch” Ramirez, Jr. (Zita); Anna Laura “Bini” Teran, of San Tan Valley, AZ; Jorge Luis Ramirez (Amy) of Dallas, TX; Alberto Gerardo Ramirez (Norma); and Ana Luisa “Nini” Fernandez, of Del Rio, TX, twelve grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.  She is also survived by her sister Maria Luisa “Wicha” Gonzalez (Javier) and her brothers George C. “Coco” Magnon, Jr. (Patricia), and Roberto Alfonso “Bobby” Magnon (Donna).

The Ramirez family will be receiving guests on Sunday, February 5, 2023, in the Angelus Chapel at Fred Dickey Funeral & Cremation Services from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm. A Vigil will begin at 7:00 pm. Cremation will be held at a later date.

Dear Family of Laura Ramirez, My family is sending you their deepest, heartfelt condolences at this time. I will always remember the many family events I enjoyed with many of you over the years. Ms. Ramirez was a central part of all of them. As a close friend of Ana's since middle school, I was blessed with knowing Ms. Ramirez for many years. She made the best cakes, including my own wedding cake. I remember her laugh, and the way she found humor in situations. She will always be remembered as a strong, intelligent, and remarkable person. Our prayers go out to all of you at this very difficult time. Sincerely, Suzie, Karel, and James McManus

To the Ramirez and Magnon families my deepest condolences. I had the pleasure to work with Laura at LNB, she was one of the kindest people i knew. She was an excellent writer and you could count on to construct all correspondence properly, you could give her the general theme and she would go with it producing what you needed. There are not a lot of people who can do that. Another strength she had was working with people of all ages. She made everyone feel comfortable I will miss her smiling face. May God bless all of the family. David L. Reuthinger
