Julia Zuniga Castaneda, lovingly known to all as Tía Julia, passed away peacefully on October 24, 2025, in her hometown of Laredo, Texas, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on November 7, 1941, in Laredo to Zulema and Tomas Zuniga, Julia lived a life defined by compassion, generosity, and warmth.

To know Julia was to know kindness. She had an extraordinary gift for making everyone feel seen, valued, and cared for. Her home was always open — whether you came for one of her comforting home-cooked meals, a heartfelt conversation, or simply to feel the peace of her presence. She was the person you could turn to without hesitation, a constant source of understanding and unconditional love.

Julia’s empathy and nurturing spirit extended far beyond her immediate family. Throughout her life, she cared for her mother, her husband, and countless others — family, friends, and neighbors alike. Her heart was boundless, and her generosity left an indelible mark on all who knew her. She worked tirelessly in her family business and took pride in her home, where her laughter and warmth created a haven for everyone fortunate enough to visit.

Julia was preceded in death by her parents, Zulema and Tomas Zuniga; her beloved husband, Vicente Castaneda; and her brothers Juan (Guadalupe), Thomas (Josie), and Roberto (Rosa) Zuniga.

She is survived by her loving daughters, Edna and Veronica Castaneda; her cherished granddaughter, Victoria (Mario) Cisneros; and her adored great-grandchildren, Mario, Marcos, and Roma Cisneros. She also leaves behind her dear sister Guadalupe (Reynaldo) Barraza ,her nephew Joe Luna, sister-in-law Anna (Mark) Webber, brother-in-law Pedro Castaneda, and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended relatives who will forever hold her memory close to their hearts.

My beloved and dear Twins 👯 and family, my sincere condolences on the loss of your/my beloved Madrecita. 💓 Ever since I met her when I was 7 years old, wow she was the most loving, caring, precious person!!! My whole childhood was spent with you both and your precious mother and father. Throughout the years, Julie Poo was the best thing in my life and she always welcomed me with open arms and I wholeheartedly loved her so much.
