Obituary

Mother,

You left us beautiful memories Your love is still our guide,

Although we cannot see you,

You’re always at our side.

-Anonymous

Our beloved mother was called home by our Lord and Savior on Tuesday, January 4, 2022. Julia Godina Gonzalez was born on November 11, 1935, and lived a long and fruitful life. Our family matriarch, mom devoted all her time to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

She enjoyed Sunday family gatherings, listening to Marco Antonio Solis, Juan Gabriel, and Sunday mass on her iPad, and tending to the many plants in her garden, especially her roses.

She is preceded in death by her brothers, Lorenzo and Refugio Godina, her younger sister, Juanita Godina, her husband, Francisco L. Gonzalez, and her youngest son, Gerardo Gonzalez. We take comfort in knowing that she is now with our dad and our little brother.

She is survived by her daughters, Nora (Jorge) Mendoza, San Juanita Gonzalez, Elsa Rebecca Gonzalez, Alma Delia (Richard) Perales, Irma Graciela (Eddie) Saldivar, Sandra Lewis Gonzalez (Gerardo +) and by her remaining son, Gonzalo (Felipa) Gonzalez; her grandchildren, Marcos (Amanda), Eduardo, Alejandro (Chloe) Mendoza, Celina (Felipe) Menchaca, Jackie (Jose) Vega and Gonzalo (Roxanna) Gonzalez, Eddie Ill, Ilynne and Ian Saldivar, Julio C. Mendez and Olivia Perales, Jennifer, Kenneth, Joshua (Tyrah) Swisher and 7 great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by her sisters and brothers, Virginia Garza, Tina Vela, Jose Godina, Simon Godina and Anastacio Godina, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Our family would like to thank her visiting nurse, Anita Pacheco of Heavenly Nurses, the hospice nurses from Nurses On Wheels, and the fourth-floor nurses of Doctors Hospital for the care and compassion they bestowed on our mother: we would especially like to thank our family member who was also her health care provider, Sylvia R. Godina for her extending care and companionship to our mother for many years.

Our mother will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

The family will be receiving guests on Sunday, January 9, 2022, at Fred Dickey Funeral & Cremation Services from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm. A Holy Rosary will begin at 7:00 pm. My deepest sympathies for your loss at this sad time my dear cousins. Another bright light has been diminished within the family. In loving memory, I will miss your mother’s wonderful storytelling of all the yesteryears that have gone by. I will miss her great laughter, humbleness and generosity. Our Grandma Virginia has taught her well. Your beautiful mother will be greatly missed. RIP Sweet Tia Julia, and Go with God. ???
