Mr. Jose Manuel Treviño, 91 years of age, was called to his heavenly home on October 7, 2024 in Austin, Texas.
Mr. Treviño dedicated his entire adult life to supporting his family. His commitment and dedication to others also extended to his military service in the Army (on active duty and Reserve) and his career with the US Postal Service. His work ethic was exemplified in very concrete ways, such as working overtime on a regular basis and studying mail delivery routes in his free time. Mr. Treviño also maintained lasting friendships with classmates, relatives, and co-workers.
His attention to detail was also reflected in his regular personal study time. Mr. Treviño was a diligent reader of newsmagazines, newspapers, and was a frequent browser of reference materials like dictionaries and encyclopedias. Because of this interest, he modeled curiosity and learning to those around him. Mr. Treviño was an avid fan of cinema, especially westerns and epics, and would often bring along his family who have fond memories of going on family outings to the old Bordertown drive-in in North Laredo and visits to the now defunct Royal, Tivoli, and Plaza theaters in downtown Laredo.
At home, Mr. Treviño would invite friends and relatives to family cookouts. He enjoyed carne asadas and other traditional Mexican meals. He was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan from the very beginnings of the franchise until this current season (2024).
His commitment to his neighbors extended to his regular readings of scripture during Mass at St. Joseph Church on Meadow Avenue, volunteer work at parish social events such as Bingo nights, and visits to parish priests whom he befriended. Even after his retirement and declining mobility when he could no longer attend Mass regularly, he continued to read the Old and New Testaments on a daily basis. He demonstrated his faith in a sincere way that earned him the respect of those with whom he lived.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Maria Irene Aguirre Treviño, his parents, Juan Manuel and Maria del Refugio Treviño, and his brothers Evaristo Gonzalez and Juan Manuel Treviño, Jr.
Left to cherish his memory are his siblings Cenovia Ballesteros, Rebecca T. Villarreal, Ana Isabel Treviño, and Juan Francisco Treviño; his children, Jose Manuel (Lynette) Treviño, Jr., Maricela (Daniel) Duncan, Jorge Eduardo Treviño, Javier (Grace) Treviño, Jaime Treviño, and Juan Gabriel (Heather) Treviño; his grandchildren Dustin Daniel Duncan, Jose Francisco Treviño, Luz Elisa Royal, Derek David Duncan, Ariana Sarai Treviño, Jorge Eduardo (Christine) Treviño, Jr., Carlos Javier (Thalia) Treviño, Clarissa Vianney Treviño, Katarina Alexa Treviño, Thomas David Treviño, Aidan Gabriel Treviño, and Alexa Elise Treviño; his great-grandchildren Noah Duncan, Khloe Duncan, Celeste Ruth Treviño, Joel Reagan Royal, Derek Duncan, Josephine Jane Treviño, Thea Treviño, and Maria Julieta Treviño.
The family will receive friends during a visitation from 5 PM to 9 PM on Sunday, October 13, 2024 at the Angelus Chapel of Fred Dickey Funeral Home. A Rosary will be recited at 7 PM. Visitation will continue on Monday, October 14, 2024 at 7:30 AM. Dismissal will begin at 8:40 AM for a 9:00 AM departure for a 9:30 AM Funeral Mass at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Services will conclude with a Graveside Service and presentation of Military Honors by the Laredo Veterans Honor Guard at the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.

In memory of Jose Manuel Trevino, Angelo lit a candle
My sincerest condolences to the family of Jose Manuel Trevino. I was honored to have known "JM" as we called him at the US Postal Service. He was always cheerful and full of clever comebacks to comments made on the floor during work and on breaks. May he rest in peace with our heavenly FATHER, in heaven. He will forever be in my heart! Sincerely, Leopoldo "Leo" Flores Sr.
We had the pleasure of spending time with Mr. Trevino when he moved in with Gabe and my twin sister. At family gatherings, I remember his love of desserts and how he made sure to greet my mom & dad and say good bye. While we know he is in a better place we ask for God’s love and mercy to help comfort those struggling with their loss. God bless.
Very sorry for your loss. May God bless him on his journey to heaven with my Mom Elvia, and my Dad Antonio.
