Obituary

Jose Luis Solis, 76, entered into eternal rest, Monday, January 9, 2023, surrounded by his family.

Jose Luis is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Ana Maria Corpus Solis; children, Ana Laura Solis (Mauricio) Martinez, Cristina (Roberto) Cerón, Griselda (Victor) Manrique, and Jose Luis (Norma) Solis, Jr.; siblings Alicia Solis, Arturo Solis, Hilda Montoya, San Juanita Rodriguez, and Blanca Romanos; grandchildren, Ivan Martinez, Cassandra Martinez, Sebastian Cerón, Isabella Cerón, Aaron (Gabrielle) Manrique, Rey Manrique, Sophia Solis, Diego Solis, Gladis Solis, and Crystal Contreras; as well as numerous other relatives and friends. Jose Luis was preceded in death by his parents Martin Solis and Hortencia Castañeda Solis and his brothers, Hector Solis, Oscar Solis, and Pablo Solis.

Jose Luis, or “Wicho” as he was affectionately known to friends and family, lived a life full of laughter and happiness. His good humor was contagious, and every person who met him and knew him remembers him as a warmhearted, caring, fun-loving human being. He embodied the idea that “There are no strangers here; only friends you haven’t met yet.” He was the definition of a gentleman. His love for his family was unending and unequaled, and his greatest delight was when his children and grandchildren gathered for a fun family time.

Jose Luis worked in the freight forwarding business for many decades. Later in life, he indulged his passion for good food by opening Laredo Salsa’s Restaurant and Sushi Grill, which quickly became a favorite destination for many Laredoans. He treated every customer and employee like family.

He also derived much joy, and often much pain, as a lifelong avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys. Every game day found him in his Cowboys gear ready to cheer on his team, win or lose. One of the standout moments as a fan was attending Super Bowl XXVII in California and watching his Cowboys win. When asked what his favorite color was, he always replied “Cowboy blue.”

The family will be receiving guests on Monday, January 16, 2023, in the Angelus Chapel at Fred Dickey Funeral & Cremation Services from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 17, 2023, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, located at 555 E Del Mar Blvd, Laredo, TX 78041. The Funeral Mass will begin at 10:00 a.m. Cremation will be held at a later date

Mr. Solis was my friend and client in the early nineties when he was President of Genesis Forwarding, one of several companies that he and Mrs. Solis founded. I vividly remember the morning when I met them both in 1992. Shortly after, I met their son Joey. I pray that Mr. Solis’ loved ones find comfort in knowing that he is enjoying eternal life with the Lord and surrounded by angels. Respectfully, Jaime Ballesteros

Ana Laura, My heart-felt condolences go out to you and your family in this difficult time of sorrow. May God console you in your grief…. And may you find comfort in knowing that if today you hurt deeply it is only because you were loved deeply, and the sorrow you endure is but a reflection of the great love and joy God gifted you with in your father. And know that someday, we will all be together again. May his soul rest in the eternal glory of God. My prayers are with you. Much love, Linda Lucila Villarreal
