Jose Homero Gonzalez
July 23, 1942 – May 22, 2022
Our beloved “Che” who was a Son, Brother, Uncle, Husband, Father and Grandfather, ended his journey of 79 years here on earth on May 22, 2022.
He was born in Sabinas Hidalgo, Nuevo Leon, Mexico. He immigrated to the United States in 1954 with his family at the young age of 12. He was the first in his family to graduate from Martin High School in 1960 and joined the US Army as a medic. As a teenager, he loved boxing and continued to love the sport as well as wrestling until the very end. He worked in construction most of his life. First with his father and brothers under Manuel V. Gonzalez and Sons and later in Washington, D.C., and Miles City, Montana before coming back to Laredo and working with Cobalt Construction until his retirement. Che also enjoyed hunting and fishing with family and friends. But most of all he enjoyed being a grandfather to his only grandson Jose Homero III. Che was a devoted husband to his beloved “Lupe” and together the two of them raised three children. He was a man of many talents, but above all he was a man of great faith. It was his faith that carried him through difficult times and it is his faith that will continue to be part of his legacy for his family that remain in this world.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 53 years, Guadalupe Perales Gonzalez, his parents, Manuel V. Gonzalez and Aurora Escamilla Gonzalez, his brother, Manuel Gonzalez and his sisters, Juana Aurora Gonzalez and Josefina “Fini” Bentiez (Chris+).
Left to cherish his memory are his three children Veronica Gonzalez, Jose Homero Gonzalez Jr. (Mary) and Claudia Gonzalez (Neto) and his only grandson Jose Homero Gonzalez III, He is also survived by his brothers and sisters, Juan M. Gonzalez (Aurora), Tomas Jaime Gonzalez (Delfina), Juanita White (Vicente), Roberto Gonzalez (Teresa), Aurora Juarez (Ramon) and Rosa McCabe (Alfred). He is also survived by numerous loving relatives and friends.
The family would like to thank relatives and friends for the constant support, love, prayers and vigil during the last days of “Che’s Life”.
