Jose “Pepe” Castillo Jr., 83, was called on by our Heavenly Father and entered eternal rest on Friday, May 02, 2025, in Laredo, Texas.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Jose Sr. & Paula Medina Castillo and beloved wife of 57 years, Brisieda “Bibi” Garza Castillo.
Born and raised in Laredo, Texas he was an alumnus of the Martin High School Class of 1962 and part of the State Championship basketball team. Following in the footsteps of his father, Jose enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1962 as an A2C E-3 at the Walker Air Force Base in Roswell, New Mexico and was Honorably discharged in 1966.
Back home, Jose was sworn into the Laredo Police Department as a peace officer from 1966 – 1974, Badge # 318, earning the prestigious award of Officer of the Month. Shortly after, he worked under the State of Texas as a fraud investigator and soon after joined the Webb County Sheriff’s Office, ending his Law Enforcement career as a Lieutenant. Jose continued his working career as a truancy officer with the Laredo Independent School District, retiring at Nixon High School.
Our beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather enjoyed life with his loving wife “Bibi” as he accompanied her on gambling trips to Eagle Pass, Texas and Las Vegas, Nevada. Jose returned to his faith after the passing of his wife and became an active member of the La Trinidad United Methodist Church. A fan and supporter of his Alma Mater and the mighty Cigarroa High School Toros, he was a familiar face at their sporting events. He further enjoyed attending hockey matches of the Laredo Bucks, and baseball games of the Tecos De Los Dos Laredos while enjoying fresh popcorn and a diet coke. Jose had a love hate relationship with the Dallas Cowboys always making sure to watch their games hoping his “numbers” would hit. He found entertainment in watching wresting matches of WWE and Mexican “Lucha” events, most recently attending a WWE Saturday Night Main Event with his family. Of most importance to him was attending all his sons, grand & great-grandchildren’s cheer, sporting and school events. He added suspense by telling his family he would be taking them to “Viejos”, a destination he only knew of.
A true patriot and supporter of our Country’s Armed Forces and Law Enforcement Officers, he always saluted uniformed personnel while wearing a U.S Air Force Veteran cap and proudly flew the American Flag at his residence.
His memory is cherished and survived by his sons, Jose (Grace) Castillo III, Roberto (Sabrina) Castillo; grandchildren Jennifer L. Castillo (Rogelio Trevino +), Jonathan “Carawaya” (Andrea) Castillo, Lauren N. Valdez, Roberto Castillo II, Jorge Roberto Castillo and Austin Castillo; great-grandchildren Leslie M. Trevino, Lindsey C. Castillo and Nathan Castillo; brother Raymundo Castillo (Reyna +) and sister Maria (Jose) De La Luz Hinojosa. He is also survived by many cousins, nephews & nieces and many friends who will miss him dearly.
