Obituary

José Angel Flores, Jr.Mr. José Angel Flores, Jr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend, passed away on Monday, December 27, 2010 at the age of 55 surrounded by his wife, children, brothers and sisters, and other extended family. He was a kind, sensitive, and loving man who was affectionately known to all as Choche.Mr. Flores was born on January 19, 1955 and raised in Laredo, Texas. He attended Martin High School, and was a certified and very successful mechanic and entrepreneur who owned Flores Garage. Mr. Flores married his lifelong sweetheart Marta Vasquez on December 14, 1976, and they had one son and a daughter. He was a devout Catholic family man who dedicated his time to his family, and loved his children and grandchildren unconditionally. Mr. Flores was well known in the community for his service in helping the less fortunate in their time of need. He was always willing to assist in fundraising efforts (plate sales, raffles, etc..) for special causes and scholarships. Mr. Flores was best known by family and friends for his jokes and quick wit. He always loved to make people laugh and had a special talent for storytelling and sharing a good joke. He was a very spiritual person who attended St. Augustine Catholic Church and served as an usher. He was a staunch supporter of the San Augustine Jamaica, and along with his brother, Cornelio (Nelo) cooked many hamburgers throughout the years for the enjoyment of all participants. Mr. Flores was a proud 3rd degree Knight and the treasurer for the Knights of Columbus. He encouraged his children to follow their dreams through pursuing a higher education. Mr. Flores was a jack of all trades and was not only a successful mechanic but also very skilled in carpentry, plumbing, welding, etc… He was able to share these traits with his son Joey, who in his own right has also become a successful businessman and entrepreneur. Mr. Flores enjoyed cooking carne asadas for his family and specialized in making tripitas.He was preceded in death by his parents, José Angel and Adelaida G. Flores, his father-in-law, Julian Vasquez, Sr., his sister-in law, Baudilia Vasquez; and his brother-in-law, Tomas Sandoval.He is survived by his loving wife, Martha V. Flores; his son and best friend, José Angel (Sarah) Flores, III; his beloved and cherished daughter, Selinda A. Flores; loving grandchildren, José Angel Flores, IV, Saidee L. Flores and Aaron Flores. He is also survived by his brothers with whom he shared a special bond, Margarito “Mike” (Maricela) Flores, Juan José (Josefina) Flores, Jose Luis (Laura) Flores, and Cornelio (Angela) Flores; sisters, Maria S. (Fernando) Hernández, Adelaida (Jesse) Hernández and Leonor (José Manuel) Gonzalez and aunts, Teresa Solis and Aurelia Gonzalez. Mr. Flores is also survived by a very special uncle, Francisco “Tio Pancho” (Andrea) Gonzalez who served as a surrogate father and mentor throughout his life. Even throughout his short illness Tio Pancho was there for him to care and support him. Additionally, Mr. Flores is survived by his mother-in-law, Paulina Vasquez; sisters-in-law, Alicia Sandoval, Rosa V. Garcia, Yolanda (José Luis) Aldaco, Gloria (Ruben) Mendiola, Dora E. (Gerardo) Piña, and Minerva (José Alfredo) De Leon; and brothers-in-law, Julian (Corina) Vasquez, Jr., Rodolfo (Eliza) Vasquez, Heriberto Vasquez, Arturo (Alma Rosa) Vasquez, and Francisco (San Juana) Vasquez. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Family members will be receiving friends and family at Fred Dickey Funeral and Cremation Services on Wednesday December 29, from 5:00pm – 9:00pm with a rosary recited at 6:30pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday December 29, 2010 San Agustin Catholic Church at 9:30am.
