Humberto Peña Sr., age 92, of Laredo, Texas, passed away Saturday morning, June 14, 2025, at his home with his loving children at his side.
Humberto was born on March 3, 1933, in Laredo, Texas, the son of the late Canuto and Celia (Gonzalez) Peña. He served in the United States Army from 1953 until his honorable discharge from the Korean War in 1955, reaching the rank of Sergeant First Class. He married the former Fernandina Diaz on July 6, 1957. She preceded him in death on September 15, 2019, along with his daughter, Yolanda Palacios, on July 5, 2003.
He enjoyed helping others and made friends everywhere he went. He also loved camping and swimming. Humberto’s family meant everything to him—he was a great husband, but most of all, he was the best father ever, truly one of a kind.
Survivors include his four children: Fernandina (Juan) Martinez, Rosalinda (Mari Mar), Lydia (Jaime) Villagran, and Humberto Peña Jr.; eleven wonderful grandchildren: Roberto Garcia Jr., Armando Garcia, Tomas Palacios III, Sergio Palacios, Benjamin Palacios, Daniella Martinez, Andres Villagran, Valeria Peña, Clarissa Peña, Cristina Peña, and Lilianna Peña; twenty great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
The family will be receiving guests on Thursday, June 19, 2025, at Fred Dickey Funeral & Cremation Services from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm. The chapel will reopen at 7:00 am on Friday, June 20, 2025 to depart at 8:30 am for a Funeral Mass at Blessed Sacrament Catholic at 9:00 am. Interment will follow to the Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Military honors will be performed by the United States Army Honor Guard and the Laredo Veterans Honor Guard. Pallbearers will be Rosalinda Peña, Humberto Peña Jr., Roberto Garcia Jr., Armando Garcia, Tomas Palacios III, Sergio Palacios, Benjamin Palacios, and Andres Villagran. Humberto enjoyed life to the fullest and will be greatly missed by all.
