Obituary

An angel on earth, Hilda Arredondo Flores, 89, was called home to heavenly Father earth on June 17, 2024. She passed peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones.

Hilda was born in Laredo to Bertha and Thomas Arredondo. She was the eldest of 7 children, attended Laredo private schools, and was a proud graduate of San Agustin High School.

An incredible caring and loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend, she always had a kind word and gentle smile for everyone she’d meet. Always radiated positivity and joy, not to mention love. So, it’s no surprise that being a mother was second nature to her, and many considered her their second mother, from her siblings to her nieces, nephew and cousins.

As a career woman, Hilda worked as an educator at San Agustin School, Christ the King School and as Director of the Community Action Agency.

Like the Northern Star, our mother/ grandmother was a guiding bright light, and the world is now a little darker without her presence. But it is comforting knowing that she has been reunited with the love of her life Julian, whom she so missed, as well as her parents, brother and other dearly departed loved ones.

Hilda is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 63 years, Julian Hector Flores, her daughter Hilda, her parents Tomas and Bertha Arredondo, her brother Tomas Arredondo Jr. and her father and mother-in-law Julian S. Flores and Olivia Villarreal Flores.

Left to cherish her memory and continue her legacy are her 2 beloved children, Lucille (Ricardo) Rios and Julian (Linda) Flores.

She also leaves behind 4 grandchildren, who she adored, Ricardo (Priscilla) Rios, Jessica (David) Garza, Tiffany Rios, and Jennifer Flores; great-grandchild Edward “Ben” Garza, Emily Chapa, Daxton Lopez, Rochelle Hinojosa and Diego Hinojosa.

Also left to cherish her memory are her brother Jose Luis Arredondo, Sara (+ Alejandro) Saenz, Sylvia (Manuel) Ramirez, Sonia (+ Luis) Negrete and Sandra (+ Alejandro) Mata, Margie (+Tomas) Arredondo and Brother-in-Law Juan Jose Flores; as well as other family and friends that will greatly miss her.

The family would like to express their gratitude to her loving caregivers, Mari and Consuelo; also, to Alfa Home & Health Care Services and all their wonderful staff, and to all those who have kept Hilda close in their thoughts and prayers.

The family will be receiving guests on Saturday, June 22, 2024 from 5:00 pm to  9:00 pm at Fred Dickey Funeral & Cremation Services, where a rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm. Cremation will be held at a later date.

Funeral arrangements are by Fred Dickey Funeral & Cremation Services, 1320 Trey Dr., Laredo, Texas 78041 (956) 723-3611.

To the Flores Children: My deepest condolences in the passing of your mom. I knew your mom and dad back in the late 50's and early 60's. Your dad and my dad were both firemen and close friends. They would go to dances together and I being in my early teens would tag along. They were the best dancers in Laredo. They were so good that people would stop dancing and form a circle to watch them dance. Later in 72 your mom gave me my first job in a one of the many city daycares. I'll be forever grateful to her for that. You were blessed with wonderful parents and that you had them for such a long time. May your mom and dad rest in peace.

May the Heavenly Father give her the tranquility of eternal peace. She will be dearly missed and always remembered as she gave us memories that we will never forget ever. She was always such a warm heart and always very inviting to those who were part of her family. It is with a heavy heart that we pray God give the entire family peace during their time of mourning. May Mrs. Flores legacy live on through all she did in life. It’s like we lost our own family member . She was a kind soul to all of us.. May she rest in peace.
