Obituary

Gumaro Obregon, 80, entered into eternal rest Saturday, October 10, 2020.

Gumaro Obregon was a loving husband, father, brother, and friend. He was a family driven person who loved spending time with his family. Mr. Obregon was a kindhearted person, always willing to help others. He was very passionate about giving guidance to the younger generation, to motivate them to become the best versions of themselves.

His leagcy will continue through the founding of his family driven restaurants, Obregon’s Mexican Restaurant. Which he passionately opened in the ’70s wishing to provide his hometown Laredo with the traditional Mexican culture cuisine.

It saddens us to know he will no longer be here with us and will be missed profoundly. His family and friends will continue to celebrate his life and legacy.

Mr. Obregon is preceded in death by his parents, Mario and Olivia Obregon, Sr.; son, Gumaro Obregon, Jr.; brothers, Raul Javier Obregon and Alvaro Obregon.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Graciela Garcia; children, Sandra Obregon, Mario Rodolfo (Maria) Obregon, Gina Kelly Obregon, Michelle Obregon, Zully Obregon, Gilberto Ariel (Zadie) Obregon, Gumaro (Danielle) Obregon, Gustavo Rubio, Deyra Rubio, and Jessica Rubio; 22 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren; siblings, Marcial Obregon, Oscar Obregon, Ricardo Obregon, Gerardo Obregon, Maria Obregon, Aurora Jerby, Selia Keelling, Olivia Martinez, Carlos Obregon; as well as other family and friends who will greatly miss him.

The family will be receiving guests, Wednesday, October 14, 2020, at Fred Dickey Funeral & Cremation Services from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm. A Holy Rosary will begin at 7:00 pm. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 15, 2020, at San Luis Rey Catholic Church. The Funeral Mass will begin at 8:30 am. Interment will follow to the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.

I will always remember you as the hard working family man who believed that if you wanted to live a good life than you had to work hard to get it . I don’t ever remember him not working . He loved his work and made a great impact in the Latino community in Laredo, Tx. He showed tough love but had the biggest heart. He is not my biological father but he was the only man in my life that I grew up loving as a father. I will see you later Grandpa when you come back to see us or until I join you . You will be missed . I will only shed tears of happiness for you and be proud of the man you were and are .
