Gloria G. Davila, age 92, passed away peacefully on August 06, 2025 in Laredo, TX at home surrounded by loved ones. She was born on September 18,1932 in Estacion El Alamo, El Potrero, Nuevo Leon, Mexico to parents, Jose and Bernardina Guzman. She was a beloved wife to the late Horacio Davila for 63 years. Up until the end, Gloria maintained great recognition and memories of all her loved ones. Gloria was the family’s memory keeper. Gloria would always enjoy visits from her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She loved sharing memories with all who visited and would always make everyone feel special by making sure they left with a little something even if it was as little as a piece of candy or fruit.

Gloria was the matriarch of her family and was always the pillar that kept it all together. She had a special bond with all and all had a special place in her heart.

Gloria is preceded in death by her husband; Horacio Davila, parents; Jose and Bernardina Guzman and siblings; Pablo Guzman, Oziel Guzman, Elvira Guzman, and Guadalupe G. De Castro.

She is survived by her loving children who cared for her endlessly; Dora E. (+George) Tays, Elvira (Juan Francisco) Ortegon, Oralia (+Eliver) Montalvo, Veronica (+Sergio) Gonzalez, Leticia (Antonio) Sanchez, Gloria (Manuel) Solis, and Horacio Davila, Jr.

Siblings; Sigifredo Guzman, Olaguer Guzman, Zulema G. Lopez, and Eludivina G. Mederes.

Grandchildren; Edith Adriana (Rodrigo) Castaneda, Juan Francisco (Allison) Ortegon Jr., Jose E. Montalvo, Debra L. (Joe Alfred) Tays-Ochoa, George E. Tays, Manuel Solis Jr., Brenda D. Davila, Mayra A. Davila, Ashley Renee Guerra, Jonathan P. (Diana) Solis, Jeanette E. Montalvo, Horacio Davila III, and Kimberly R. Davila.

Great grandchildren; Mateo I. Ortegon, Mia I. Ortegon, Dallas N. Ochoa, Catalina Isabella Solis, Nayeli A. Castillo, and Guiliana N. Davila.

Gloria was an example of love, strength, and resilience to her family. From a young age, Gloria was always a caretaker and provider. Gloria moved to the United States to marry her husband and raise her children during times that were difficult, and money was scarce. No matter the barrier, Gloria always found a way to make ends meet and provide for her family. Gloria was an amazing cook, always baking and cooking everything from scratch. Often as soon as you would pull up to her driveway you could smell the aromas of a home cooked meal, and you instantly knew you were home. She always made sure that everyone would eat and that you never left with any empty stomach. It is with great hope that her recipes be passed down from generation to generation. Gloria also enjoyed reading and listening to boleros. Her favorite songs will forever be dear to our hearts. Though Gloria’s passing has brought deep sadness, we have been blessed by 92 years of wonderful memories that will live on through each of us. May we all continue to celebrate her and honor all that she instilled in us. Gloria’s unconditional love has touched us deeply. She will forever be in our hearts.

The family will be receiving guests on Monday, August 11, 2025, at Fred Dickey Funeral & Cremation Services from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm.  A rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm.  The chapel will reopen at 8:00 am on Tuesday, August 12, 2025 to depart at 10:30 am for a Funeral Mass at St. Patrick Catholic Church at 11:00 am. Interment will follow to the Laredo City Cemetery.
