Obituary

Gerardo Rodriguez Sr. passed away Monday January 20, 2020 at the age of 79. He was surrounded by his wife, children and loved ones. Gerardo was born October 15, 1940 in Eagle Pass, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Nieves Rodriguez and Maria Godina Rodriguez, brother Nieves Rodriguez and grandchild Gerardo Alberto Fuentes.

Gerardo’s family moved to Laredo, Texas in 1954 where he attended Christian Middle and graduated from Martin High School. Upon graduation in 1961, he worked at La Posada Hotel where he was employed for 35 years. Gerardo started as a bellboy and his dedication and hardwork landed him a position as an assistant general manager. Gerardo was known as a leader, mentor, and friend to everyone that knew him. In addition to working at La Posada, he taught hotel management at Laredo Junior College for 17 years. After leaving La Posada in 1995, Gerardo also worked for the Metro Office Facility, Webb County Justice Center, City of Laredo Parks and Leisure, and UISD Transportation Department. Gerardo retired in 2016.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 54 years Zulema Iruegas Rodriguez, his children Lulu (Beto) Fuentes, and Gerardo (Alma) Rodriguez Jr. Grandchildren Mahogany Forman Fuentes, Karla Fuentes, Karina Rodriguez, Gerardo Rodriguez III, Victoria Fuentes, and Ricardo I. Rodriguez. Sibling Consuelo (Gilberto) Rodriguez Garcia, nephews Gilberto (Gina) Garcia, Ernesto (Claudia) Garcia, Consuelo (Frank) Garcia Olivo. Sibling Jose Luis (Debby) Rodriguez, Nephews Jose Luis (Diana) Rodriguez Jr., Carlos (Laura) Rodriguez, Danny (Anna) Rodriguez, CJ (Ana) Martinez, and Franky Martinez.

The family will be receiving guests Monday, January 27, 2020, at Fred Dickey Funeral & Cremation Services from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm. A Holy Rosary will start at 7:00 pm. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 28, 2020, at San Martin de Porres Catholic Church. The funeral mass will start at 10:30 am. Interment will follow to the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Gerardo Rodriguez Jr., Gerardo Rodriguez III, Ricardo I. Rodriguez, Francisco Alberto Fuentes, Jose Luis Rodriguez Jr., Carlos Rodriguez, Ernesto Garcia, and Jorge Iruegas.
