Obituary

Filiberto Serna, 78, has come to his rest in the presence of our Lord on Tuesday, December 18, 2018.

Mr. Serna was an exemplary dedicated husband, father, grandfather and a true servant of God who loved and served the Lord with all his being.  Mr. Serna proudly served his country in the Air Force in the 552nd FM Squad.  He loved working on his ranch using his tractor and working with his hands.  He enjoyed going to the ranch with his childhood friend Andy Ramos and his good friend Rudy Lerma.

Mr. Serna was an award-winning Barber who studied in Chicago, ILL.  Then he started to work with Adolfo’s Barbershop.  Soon after, he opened his own shop with his friend and partner, Rudy and Filiberto’s Barber Shop, for over 25 years.

In 1987, Filiberto and his wife started Border Beauty Supply, where he loved working alongside Susana every single day, not ever missing a day of work.  He was a very hardworking man.  Filiberto was lovingly called “El Sir” by his employees, friends, and family.

He truly appreciated the business advice he received from his close friends, Moy and Henry Goldberg.

Filiberto was an avid reader who was always eager to gain more knowledge.

He also enjoyed taking morning walks in historic downtown Laredo.

Filiberto was a Coca-Cola connoisseur, loved playing his guitar, and most importantly, he was a man who adored spending all of his time with his loving family.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 38 years of marriage, Susana Serna; children Susie Laurel, Joshua Serna, Filiberto Jr., Marco, Daniel, Michelle and Ricardo; granddaughter Leila Graham; siblings, Apolonio Serna, Jose Serna, Homero (Rachel) Serna, Amanda (Carlos) Torres and Hector (Laura) Serna, nieces, nephews, relatives, grandchildren and friends.

The family will receive guests on Thursday, December 20, 2018, from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Fred Dickey Funeral & Cremation Services with a prayer service at 7:00 pm.  Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 21, 2018, at the Fred Dickey Funeral & Cremation Services chapel.  A chapel service will start at 10:00 am.  Interment will follow to the City Cemetery.  Military honors will be provided by the United States Air Force.

Funeral arrangements are by Fred Dickey Funeral & Cremation Services, 1320 Trey Dr. Laredo, TX 78041 (956)723-3611.  You may leave condolences to the family online at www.freddickey.com

“ With that I heard a loud voice from the throne say: “Look! The tent of God is with mankind, and he will reside with them, and they will be his people. And God himself will be with them. And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.” -Revelation 21:3-4
