Fernando Alarcon

Fernando Alarcon, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on January 24, 2025, at the age of 94. A lifelong resident of Laredo, Texas, Fernando was born on August 25, 1930, to Arturo and Esperanza Alarcon. He lived a life full of love, hard work, and unwavering faith, leaving an enduring legacy for all who knew him.
In 1955, Fernando answered the call to serve his country, entering the United States Army. He began his military service stationed at Fort Knox, Kentucky, before being deployed to Gelnhausen, Germany, from 1956 to 1957. Serving with the 33rd Tank Battalion as a Specialist 3rd Class during the Korean Conflict, Fernando demonstrated steadfast dedication and patriotism. After fulfilling his service, he was honorably discharged, a proud veteran who always held his time in the military close to his heart.
Fernando dedicated 29 years of his professional life to the Uniroyal Tire Testing Facility, later Michelin, where he worked as a tire inspector, test driver and photographer.
A man of many talents and hobbies, Fernando was an exceptional craftsman and handyman, always creating or building something for his loved ones. He was a gifted photographer, participated in a bowling league, and enjoyed watching baseball and football. Above all, Fernando found his greatest joy in spending time with his family, whom he cherished deeply.
A devout Catholic, Fernando was a dedicated member of San Martin de Porres Catholic Church and a loyal follower of the Virgin de Guadalupe. His faith was the foundation of his life, shaping his kind, compassionate, and light-hearted spirit.
Fernando is survived by his devoted wife of 66 years, Aurora Cristina Saenz Alarcon, who was his unwavering companion and partner. Together, they built a loving family, raising four children: Fernando (Rebecca) Alarcon Jr., Elizabeth (David) Longoria, Adriana (Ronald) Lozano, and Javier (Marissa) Alarcon.
He was the proud and loving grandfather of eight grandchildren: David Longoria, Dante Lozano, Gabriela (Rocky) Longoria Trigleth, Samantha Alarcon, Dimitri Lozano, Fernando Alarcon III, Alejandro Alarcon, and Andrea Alarcon. In addition to his immediate family, Fernando is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family who will forever treasure his memory.
Fernando was preceded in death by his parents, Arturo and Esperanza Alarcon; his brother, Arturo (Gloria) Alarcon Jr.; and five sisters: Elena, Benita, Dolores, Ernestina, and Refugio. Though their loss weighed heavily on his heart, Fernando always celebrated the bonds and love they shared.
A rosary and mass will be held at San Martin De Porres Catholic Church on Saturday, February 15, 2025 beginning at 8:00 am to celebrate Fernando’s extraordinary life and the love and faith he shared with all who knew him. A holy rosary will be recited at 8:30 am and funeral mass will begin at 9:00 am. Inurnment will follow to the Laredo City Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the United States Army Honor Guard. Honorary pallbearers are David, Dante, Dimitri, Fernando III, Alejandro, Rocky, Gabriela, Samantha, and Andrea.
He will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, a proud and supportive father, a beloved grandfather, and a kind-hearted friend. His humor, creativity, and hard-working nature touched countless lives, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew him.
Rest in peace, Fernando. You will live forever in the hearts of those who loved you.
