Obituary

“As long as there is love and memory, there is no true loss.”—Cassandra Clare

Esteban Munoz, 81, a caring husband, loving father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on April 8, 2022, at home, surrounded by loved ones who will continue to honor his legacy by living their lives to the fullest.

Esteban was born in Monterrey, NL, to Eugenio Munoz and Maria Garcia Jimenez, and raised in Laredo, TX. After high school, he proudly served our country in the U.S. Army, from 1962 to 1965, as a Sergeant E-5. Upon his honorable discharge from the military, he passed his U.S. Customs Broker’s exam and established his own business. He had a passion and flair for understanding and interpreting customs laws and regulations and genuinely liked working with people from all walks of life.

Esteban was predeceased by his son, Jose Eugenio Munoz. He is survived by his wife, Rosario S. Munoz, children (from previous marriage) Luis Esteban Munoz,  Laura Elena Munoz, Manuel Eduardo Munoz, and Alberto (Rebecca) Munoz, his former spouse, Rosa Maria Vasquez, his favorite sister, Estella (Wilfred) Garza, his brother Eugenio, and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews, and nieces.

His greatest interests were travel and photography. If you mentioned “trips,” he’d be packed and ready at the drop of a hat. His love of life was evident in the way he lived. He thrived in the outdoors, enjoyed hiking, exploring, and adventure. His travels took him across the U.S., including Alaska and Hawaii, and neighboring countries, Canada, and Mexico. He loved to dance and had some quirky dance moves that no one, hopefully, will ever be able to replicate. Family and friends were always entertained by his stories, sense of humor, and Mexican proverbs for all occasions. In the end, he was pampered by long-time family friend and dedicated caregiver, Imelda Martinez, who cooked and served all his favorite delicious Mexican dishes.

He will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.

The family will be receiving guests on Tuesday, April 12, 2022, at Fred Dickey Funeral & Cremation Services from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm. A Holy Rosary will be officiated at 7:30 pm.
