Obituary

 

Esteban Gerardo “Jerry” Medina, 67, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, June 11, 2022.

Jerry was born in San Antonio, Texas. He graduated from Raymond & Tirza Martin High School in 1973. He served as a firefighter for the City of Laredo for 30 years and retired as a Captain in 2011, and while serving he was honored with the Life Saving Medal. He also worked for the Laredo Fire Department Federal Credit Union for over 20 years, and after retiring he became a board member.

During his early years Jerry participated in a river raft race with the Deadly Six and won 1st place six years in a row in 1984. A member of the Laredo Rescue Team swift water technician 1 and 2 and a proud member of the LFD “Black Water Dive Team”.  Jerry was also a proud member of the Laredo Firefighter’s Motorcycle Club.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Eloisa Refugio Herrera Medina & Esteban Medina and by his beloved son, David Justin Medina. Jerry is survived by his wife, Susan Kay Medina, son Mario Alfonso Medina; and grandchildren Elias Gerardo Medina and Landon James Medina; as well as other family members and friends that will greatly miss him.

The family will be receiving guests on Wednesday, June 15, 2022, at Fred Dickey Funeral & Cremation Services from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm. A Holy Rosary will be officiated at 7:00 pm. We will be dismissing for procession at 9:30 am to the Fire Department Administration Center 616 East Del Mar Blvd on Thursday, June 16, 2022. Cremation will be held at a later date.

As per the family’s request face masks are required for those attending the funeral services.

My dad had a hard life that wasn't really aware of till I was older. He worked hard to try and provide a better life for him and his family and succeeded and I will always love and appreciate everything he has done for us. On June 11 2022 my father passed from the disease ALS, a disease that with no cure and one that he never deserved. Its hard to think of him gone, he did everything for us and I'll miss him greatly. Love you dad.
