Emilia Cantu

Emilia Cantu, 76, passed away Sunday, May 8, 2011. Mrs. Cantu was preceded in death by her husband Jesus Cantu twenty years ago. She was a long time member of San Agustin Cathedral. She was known as “La Jefa”. Her sons played and owned Mariachi Aztlan. She was the mover, shaker and inspiration of their band. She is survived by; children, Juanita (Salvador) Torres, Jesus E. (Rosie) Cantu, Marta P. (Jose Alfredo) Hinojosa, Carlos (Adriana P.) Cantu, Raul (Dinora) Cantu, Francisco Javier (Adriana R.) Cantu, Sylvia (Juan) Torres; 13 grandchildren; brother, Andres (Olga) Muro; sisters, Maria Luisa (Gerardo) Blanco and Maria Elena Gonzalez. Mrs. Cantu is also survived by nieces, nephews and other relatives. The family will be receiving friends and family at Fred Dickey Funeral and Cremation Services Tuesday, May 10, 2011, from 4pm-9pm, where a Rosary will be recited a 6:30pm. Funeral Services will be Wednesday, May 11, 2011, from the funeral home, via cortege, to San Agustín Cathedral for a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00am celebrated by Msgr. Tom Davis. Interment will follow immediately at the Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Jesus E. Cantu, Carlos Cantu, Raul Cantu, Francisco J. Cantu, Salvador Torres, Juan Torres, Jose Alfredo Hinojosa and Jesus Alfredo Hinojosa.
