I had the pleasure of meeting Mr Duarte thru the LMT Rem Room postings. When I met him in person he asked me to call him “Mundo”. We went to an Air Show at the former LAFB one day. A few survivors of The Mexican Air Force Escuadrón 201 were there and said he wanted to meet them. I took several pictures with the pilots and Mundo was very proud and said, “Yo peleándo en la tierra y ellos por el aire...mis Compañeros !” He told me several stories but the one I remember most is the one he told me about the time he was in a French hospital recuperating from a wound. He woke up and said hello to a soldier next to him. “Where are you from”, he asked. The man said,”from a small town in south Texas called Laredo”. “Yo también soy de Laredo....y para que entonces estamos hablando inglés?”, Mundo asked. They both broke out in laughter ! I only remember the other soldier’s last name as Mundo told me. His last name was “BOTELLO” . R.I.P. buddy. QEPD.
