Diamantina (Diana) Smith, 90, joined our Heavenly Father into eternal peace on Sunday, January 15, 2023. She was born on March 1, 1932, to parents Pedro and Carmen Garcia Escamilla. She is a descendant from Spain where her grandfather Andres Escamilla settled in the city of Viejo Guerrero, Mexico. She is preceded in death by her parents and siblings Benigno Escamilla, George Escamilla, Beatriz E. Donaghy, Francisca E. Rubio and is survived by her sister Maria E. Ortiz and brother Jose Angel Escamilla.
Diamantina was married to her husband Arturo Smith Sr. for 66 years. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was blessed with six children Arturo Smith Jr., Mark A. Smith, Diana M. Smith-Carter, Assennette Smith-Elizondo, Melinda Y. Smith, and Yvonne Smith-Steed. Her eight grandchildren Michael Smith, Megan Smith, Kristin Smith-Watson, Jamil Jacaman, Jasmin Jacaman, Lauren Smith-Moraida, Madison Steed, Emma Steed and two great-grandchildren Cory Steed and Jonathan Farias.
Diamantina dedicated her life to her family making sure they were always taken care of. Her children called her “Diamante” (Diamond) as she was the sparkle and strength of the family. She enjoyed the outdoors feeding the birds and working in the garden. She was a very talented seamstress designing costumes, children’s clothes, and prom dresses for her family. She was competent in a variety of small skills in home repairs. She was always busy with projects around the house. Diamantina’s memory will live on through her family and the lives she touched during her time here on earth. Mother will be deeply missed.
The Smith family will be receiving guests on Saturday, January 21, 2023, in the Angelus Chapel at Fred Dickey Funeral & Cremation Services from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm. A prayer service will begin at 7:00 pm. Cremation will be held at a later date.
