Obituary

Bland E. Chamberlain Jr., 89, was called to be with his Heavenly Father on Tuesday, August 14, 2018 after a short illness.  Mr. Chamberlain attended St. Joseph’s Academy, Martin High School and Texas A&M University.  He proudly served in the military after college and was stationed in Germany after the end of World War II.  After being honorably discharged from the military, Mr. Chamberlain helped with the family’s newspaper (The Citizen) and retired from the Coke Cola Bottling Company in 1993.  After retirement, he dedicated his time to ranching and spending time with his family.  During this time, he had the honor of serving as Co-Trustee of the Bruni Mineral Trust for 16 years and resigned from this position at the end 2017.

Mr. Chamberlain enjoyed traveling with his family and among many hobbies; he enjoyed golf, hunting, and fishing. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and uncle.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Bland E. Chamberlain, Sr. and Alice Bruni Hall; sister, Alice C. Gallagher and brother, William N. Hall, Jr.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 42 years, Mrs. Blanca E. Chamberlain; children, Ernest (Ennvoy) Chamberlain, Gail (Raul) Leal; Bland E. (Sally) Chamberlain III, Margaret (George) Peña, Karen (Hugo) Lara; grandchildren Miranda & Aquiles Leal, sisters in law, Mony, Lulu, Dora Alicia Cantu, Gloria (Jose) De La Luz, Annabelle U. Hall, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives.

The family wishes to offer heartfelt gratitude to the many people that impacted his quality of life Drs. Ricardo Cigarroa, Dr. Francisco Cigarroa, Dr. Sukeshi Patel Arora, Dr. Jorge Lopera, Dr. Rajiv Rajani, Dr. Zheng Shi, Dr. Mohsen Ghadimi-Mahani, P.A. Kathy Crow and the staff at Altus Hospice who were so kind and compassionate during his final weeks.

In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to Sacred Heart Children’s Home or The Children’s Advocacy Center.

The family will receive guests on Friday, August 17, 2018, from 2:00 pm – 9:00 pm at Fred Dickey Funeral & Cremation Services.  Military Honors and Flag Presentation will be provided by the American Legion Post 59 of Laredo at 3:30 pm.   A religious service will start at 4:00 pm by Father Armando Arizola.  The family will honor his wish to be cremated which will take place at a later date.
