Atilano J. Herrera, 96, passed away Saturday, February 20, 2010 in a local hospital. Mr. Herrera was a Sergeant of the Salvation Army. He helped distribute the War Cry in the 50’s and 60’s. He was in charge of the men’s lodging and also gave his time as a bell ringer. He was preceded in death by his grandson Jacob Liendo. He is survived by his wife, Leonela Herrera; his sons, Martin Herrera and Simon Herrera; his daughters, Candelaria H. (Rodolfo) Villa, Lydia (Juan) Herrera and Rosa (Jesus) Liendo; his 13 grandchildren, among them Eliseo, Daniel and David Herrera, Delilah (Tirso) Martinez, Cynthia (Juan) Chapa, Nancy Liendo and Arturo Liendo; his 33 Great Grandchildren and his brother, Lazaro (Manuela) Herrera. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. Special thanks to Dr. Oscar Gutierrez, Doctors and Staff of the Laredo Medical Center, Nurses and Staff of Champion Care and Santa Rita Home Health. Also, special thanks to the Salvation Army Corps. and Fred Dickey Funeral Home Staff for their support and service. Visitation was held Wednesday, February 24, 2010, from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Fred Dickey Funeral & Cremation Services. Funeral Service were Thursday, February 25, 2010. A prayer service was held at 11:00 am in the funeral home chapel with Major Reymundo Reyes officiating. Interment followed to the City Cemetery. Pallbearers were; Turin Liendo, Jesus Liendo, Jr., Simon Herrera, Adan Sanchez, Daniel Herrera and Martin Herrera.
