Arturo Ramirez, Jr.

Arturo Ramirez Jr. was born on Jan 22, 1934 to Arturo and Sarah Ramirez. He entered eternal rest on March 5, 2013 surrounded by his loving family. He was born and raised in Laredo and graduated from Martin High School in 1954. Shortly after graduation he proudly served his country in the United States Army. Following his service he came to work in the family’s grocery business and then went on to own and operate Ramirez Minimax in Zapata TX for over 25 years. He dedicated himself to his family. He was a faithful son, a loving brother, a committed uncle, a devoted husband, an extraordinary father, and a compassionate grandfather. He enjoyed traveling with friends and family and he loved to laugh. His sense of humor and character will be dearly missed.He was preceded in death by his brothers: Herberto Ramirez and Roberto Ramirez. He is survived by his sisters: Blanca (Ralph) Garcia and Graciela (Harold) Platt. He is survived by his wife Berta Vela Ramirez of 43 years, his children: Arturo Ramirez III, Veronica (Levy) Martinez, Melissa (Rene) Reyes, and Roxanna (Mark) Brightman. His extended family always included his numerous nieces and nephews who he loved as his own.To his grandchildren Kassondra Martinez, Adriana Ramirez, Alysia Hernandez, Zachary Reyes, Izabele Reyes and Sarah Brightman he was affectionately known as Popo. The family will be receiving guests Friday, March 8, 2013 at Fred Dickey Funeral and Cremation Services from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm. A holy rosary will be recited at 7:00pm. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 9, 2013 at Saint Patricks Catholic Church. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00am. Pallbearers will be: Heberto Ramirez, Jr., David Puig, Jaime Ramirez, Eliberto Martinez, Mark Brightman, Rene Reyes, Zachary Reyes and Arturo Ramirez, III. Honorary pallbearers will be: Juventino Flores, Enrique Mendez, Conrado Cruz, Jr. Alfonso Vasquez, Luis Munoz, Juan Hinojosa, Xavier Villarreal and Javier Martinez, Jr. Cremation service will be held at a later date.Funeral service arrangements are under the care of Fred Dickey Funeral and Cremation Services, 4502 Thomas Ave., Laredo, TX 78041.
