Obituary

Anna Laura Rubio, 66, entered into eternal rest on, Friday, October 21, 2022.

Anna was a loving daughter and sister, devoted wife, caring mother, dedicated grandmother and great grandmother and a dear friend to many.  Anna was a 1976 graduate of Laredo Junior College School of Nursing.  Anna began working for Mercy Hospital in 1978 where her passion for nursing and her commitment to the sick in her community took flight.  After several years at Mercy Hospital she was appointed Head Nurse of the MICU department where she also served as Home Infusion Coordinator.  Prior to the opening of the new Mercy Hospital, now known as Laredo Medical Center, she was asked to serve on the architectural and design team for the new ICU department.  During her employment at Laredo Medical Center she served as Director for Home Health and Hospice Services. After a desire to return to patient care, she served as Case Manager.  Anna enjoyed the simple pleasures in life.  She had an infectious smile and laughter, not to mention a sense of humor all her own.  She loved her family dearly (and all of their pets), she enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren grow and prosper.  Anna leaves behind an immense love, a lifetime of memories and a legacy that will carry on through our lives.  She will be eternally missed.

Anna is preceded in death by her parents Adelfa Duarte and Edmundo Duarte.

She is survived by her husband Sam Rubio; children, Samantha Rubio, Miki Jocelyn (Michael) Hodgson, Anthony Daniel Rubio and Minna Adel Rubio; grandchildren, Kaitlyn (Nathan Garvin) Marquez, Anna Marquez, Johnathan Rubio, Dagan Price, Nicholai Rubio, Cassidy Rubio, Averie Cordell, Emily Garvin and soon to be baby boy Garvin; siblings, Olga Duarte, Sara (+Juan) Buentello; brothers and sisters in law, Sara (Jim) Rounder, Pat (Loren) Shelton, Toni (Rufus) Langley, Albert Rubio, Raquel (Guadalupe) Lopez and Candelaria Granados; as well as many cousins who were like brothers and sisters and her nieces and nephews who she adored.

Special thank you to Michael and Lorraine Hodgson, Abigail Pritchard, Edward Vaudry, Drs. Richard and Wendy Vaudry, Karina Gonzalez, Yolanda Seibert, Betty Buitron, Marilyn Campbell, Estella Collazo, Nixon High School Class of 1973, Nick and Alissa Garcia and family; Dr. Chandra Chintapalli, Dr. Alfredo Camero, Dr. Carlos Cigarroa, Dr. Idelfonso Fores, Dr. Bicheng Nan, The Sisters of Mercy and Mercy Ministries, Laredo Medical Center 2D, Laredo Medical Center ICU and her ICU nurses, Isabelita, Tamara, Maria, Gian, Mario, Kim, Gabby and Juanita.

My deepest sympathy to the Rubio family. I was manager of the Maternal Child Unit for many years and worked with Anna as a co manager for many of them. She was a beautiful human being. A warm smile was her trademark. A caring, loving nurse so true to her profession. She will be a great loss to her fellow nurses and friends. May she rest in peace in the arms of Our Lord Jesus Christ
