Alicia Aurora Gamez, age 86, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and sister was called by our Lord into his heavenly kingdom on Thursday, March 13, 2025. She passed away surrounded by her husband, children and close relatives, a testament to the love and closeness of her family.
A lifelong resident of Laredo, Texas, Alicia was the cornerstone of her family and a woman whose life was defined by kindness, faith and love.
Alicia was preceded in death by her parents Marin Gonzalez and Aurora Aguirre; her sisters, Ana Maria Hernandez, Emma Ancira, Dora Castelar, Socorro Rouse and brother in-law Raymond Rouse.
She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Agustin Gamez, their children, Agustin Jr, Noe Gabriel Gamez and Adriana Aurora Rodriguez and son in law Ricardo Rodriguez, and grandsons Joaquin Ricardo and Diego Angel Rodriguez. She is also survived by her sisters Maria Luisa Cancino ( Jose Luis) , Beatriz Rodriguez ( Daniel) and Maria Antonieta Guerra; as well as nieces, nephews, other family members and family friends.
Before marriage, Alicia dedicated seven years of her life as a Teacher Assistant with the Laredo Independent School District at Buenos Aires Elementary and Farias Elementary.
A homemaker at heart, Alicia took great pride in keeping her home beautiful and comfortable for her family. To her, making her home a place of peace and love was not a task – it was her joy. She enjoyed reading the newspaper and staying informed about current events. Alicia also shared the interest of watching wrestling with her older son Agustin Jr. Noe Gabriel, her son would always make her laugh and Adriana would affectionately call her “ Mi Chiquita”. The love that she had for her children was evident in the unique relationship she had with all her children. Her grandsons Joaquin and Diego truly had the sweetest and most caring grandmother. Alicia was so proud to be able to take care of her grandsons during their newborn and toddler years. She had an endearing love for them and always prayed for them.
A lifelong parishioner of San Luis Rey Catholic Church, Alicia was a faithful servant committed to church activities and organizations, including being a member of Las Guadalupanas. She actively participated in church events and prayer groups. She would attend Sunday mass with her husband since their marriage in 1970 and for the next 50 years. Alicia was also part of the Laredo Veterans Spouses Honor Guard, where she helped with events that supported the veteran community. Her caring and compassionate heart led her to make generous donations to those in need and supported various charities over the years. Alicia’s faith and commitment to her church and community were central parts of her life.
Alicia was a committed and loving wife to Agustin for 54 years. They enjoyed being together every day and were truly inseparable. Their daily outings to the movies, running errands and dining at their favorite restaurants were cherished moments they valued. Their genuine love for each other serves as an example of a true and one of a kind love. She was a humble, kind hearted and selfless person whose inner and outer beauty radiated through her infectious smile. That smile warmed hearts and calmed worries, offering comfort to all who knew her. Alicia gave all her love and time to her husband, children, and grandsons. Her legacy of love faith, and kindness will live on in the hearts of her family. Alicia’s life was a shining example of a pure heart and a beautiful soul, and her memory will be honored forever.
The family will be receiving condolences on Friday, March 21, 2025 at Fred Dickey Funeral & Cremation Services from 5:00 pm to 9:00pm. A rosary will be recited at 7:00pm. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2025 from the funeral home to San Luis Rey Catholic Church at 3502 Sanders Ave. Funeral Mass will begin at 9:00 am. Interment will follow to the Heroes’ Hall at Laredo City Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Agustin Gamez, Jr., Noe Gabriel Gamez, Ricardo Rodriguez, Daniel Rodriguez Jr., Fidel Hernandez Jr. and Julio Cesar Taboada.
