On November 20th, 2024, at the age of 51, Alice Lucy Garza-Keller answered the Lord’s call to join his side in heavenly paradise.
Alice was born Alice Lucy Garza on June 2nd, 1973, in Laredo, Texas, to Jesus and Alice Garza. The eldest of two daughters, she followed her parents to Great Falls, Montana, where she later became the big sister to Barbara; life would then call them back to Laredo, where Alice rooted herself as deep as the flowers that blossomed on the ranch she grew up on. Her childhood consisted of constant excitement and everyday adventures, including livestock-raising, horseback riding, hunting, and general fun times with her parents and sister; during high school, she was an avid member of the United High School’s swim team. Such were the many highlights of her life.
In 2003, she became the mother of her only child, Victoria, and in 2013, she married Louis R. Keller. Together, the three embarked on a journey that would take them to Casper, Wyoming, and Gonzales, Texas, before eventually settling down in Midland, Texas. Although Alice left Wyoming physically, she often stated that her heart and soul remained back in the beautiful mountainsides, and when the time finally came, she would return.
According to her daughter, Alice was ‘one-in-a-million,’ with a smile rivaling the sunset’s beauty. She was Victoria’s role model in life, having been both a neonatal phlebotomist and a teacher, with a deep-rooted love for world history and mythology. Furthermore, she was a fur mother who cherished her fur babies more than anything; she leaves behind four: her cats, Camie and Sweetpea, her dog, Coco Chanel, and her “fur granddaughter”—whom she loved very much—Sadie. All will miss her greatly. Alice found enjoyment in hobbies like decorating, crossword puzzles, traveling, gardening, and watching Derry Girls; perhaps one of her biggest dreams was visiting Londonderry, Northern Ireland. She loved music too, spending much of her youth attending concerns with her sister and filling her home with all her favorite songs.
Left to cherish her beloved memory are her daughter, Victoria Garza-Keller; her husband, Louis R. Keller; her parents, Jesus and Alice Garza; her younger sister, Barbara Garza (Hector) Segovia; and her niece, Alexandria Segovia. Alice also leaves behind numerous beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins, who will miss her greatly.
She was welcomed into heaven by her paternal grandparents, Albino and San Juanita Garza, and maternal grandparents, Roberto and Armandina Rivera.
We miss you, Alice, and we love you. We will never forget your beautiful smile, laughter, and voice. Please continue to send us postcards from heaven. We’ll take care of everything down here.
Rest in eternal peace, Mom. Thank you for choosing me as your daughter; it has been the greatest honor imaginable. Until we meet again in our next life, my heart, I promise to give you the biggest hug ever. I’ve loved you since I heard your heartbeat in your chest, and I’ll love you until mine ceases to beat.
